Stockport

One of the largest and busiest bus stations in Greater Manchester which serves as a terminus for many services across the borough is Stockport bus station. Has a ballroom described by John Betjeman as "magnificent" which contains the largest Wurlitzer theatre organ in Britain, designed by Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas, is Stockport Town Hall in Greater Manchester.

As Heaton Norris Rovers, the club formed in 1883, changing its name to Stockport County in 1890 reflecting the town's status as a county borough in Greater Manchester. Another non-League football club that played in the town in Greater Manchester was Stockport Sports F.C. (formerly Woodley Sports).

Born at Wibersley, in the parish of Stockport in Greater Manchester, baptised in the parish church and attended Stockport Free School was the regicide John Bradshaw (1602-1659). He was a lawyer, appointed lord president of the high court of justice for the trial of King Charles I in 1649. Located in the town centre is Stockport College. Established in 1487, one of the oldest in the north-west of England, Stockport is also address to Stockport Grammar School in Greater Manchester.
